Baby it’s cold outside but it’s hot at Cornservatory as Corn Productions gets ready to host  The Original Improv Gladiators – Season Ten!  Look, let’s be honest here; this show is a hit…it is hot Hot HOT!!!  So, we just had to do it again (ask our accountant), and this time it’s DOUBLE in size!  That’s right; we will have two nights of competition each week with teams competing on both Friday night and Saturday night. After six weeks, the points will be tallied, and the two highest-scoring teams from each night will compete against each other in the Grande Finale on May 22nd.  The winning team will go on to perform a four week run at Cornservatory. 

Corn Productions hosts this improv team competition, offering up their own Artistic Director to emcee the festivities.  In round one, teams perform 10-15 minutes of long form improv.  They are then are evaluated and scored by judges from theater and improv companies all over Chicago including iO, ARFTCo, Chemically Imbalanced Comedy as well as special celebrity guest judges.  Audience response will also count for a percentage of scoring.  In round two, teams will compete against the home team—The Improv Gladiators—who will use their amazing improvisation skills to block the teams from scoring points.  Points are accumulated throughout the 6 weeks culminating in a Grand Finale in which with the two top scorers from each night go head to head.

 

 

The stakes are high and the jokes are low brow but no matter how you slice it, this cross between American Gladiators, American Idol and Who’s Line is it Anyway is an exciting and entertaining night of competition, chaos and comedy.
